What is Meditation?
Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. When we pay attention to our breath, we are learning how to return to, and remain in, the present moment—to anchor ourselves in the here and now on purpose, without judgement.
What happens during a Meditation session?
A meditation session can be a deeply relaxing and/or an energizing experience. We will find a comfortable place to sit with your spine tall like a freshly bloomed flower. Follow the sensation of your breath as it goes in and as it goes out. Inevitably, your attention will leave the breath and wander to other places. When you get around to noticing that your mind has wandered—in a few seconds, a minute, five minutes—simply return your attention to the breath.
How to prepare for your Meditation session?
Find place to sit that feels calm and quiet to you. The time for us is set with a range of 10 - 30 mins depending on how long you have been practicing and your individual needs for the day. Notice your body and begin to feel your breath. You can sit in a chair with your feet on the floor, you can sit loosely cross-legged, you can kneel—all are fine. Just make sure you are stable and in a position you can stay in for a while.
